A stroll down Frenchmen St. The musical hot spot features bar after bar, nightclub after nightclub, along with a few notable eateries like Praline Connection and the Marigny Bistro. If you were to walk by the ever-popular live music venue, Blue Nile, and continue towards Praline Connection, an unassuming book store suddenly pops into view that may cause you to do a double take. Owner, Otis Fennell, has been around since then and loves the traffic of interested Frenchmen Street patrons that visit his store every day. They kind of wobble walking by and then they come in to explore. The store also hosts book signings and readings by local authors.
Welcome to the second installment of Traveling While Queer! Join me as I journey across the country to discover our shared queer history and sightsee in some of my favorite cities. Along the way, we will explore hidden havens, places of LGBTQ significance, and help you plan your dream va-gay-tion. Next stop, NOLA! While I mourn the fact that I never got to see this vibrant city before that flooding and devastation, I am so grateful to experience its unparalleled culture now. Photo by Dr. Laura McGuire.
Inside The Oldest Gay-Owned Bookstore In The South
For years New Orleans has been a mecca for everything decadent and alive. A place where music, art, history, food, and people of different ethnicities, nationalities, and sexual orientation mix and mingle like the colors of a Michalopoulos painting. And yet, with all these rich cultural draws, there's still another reason why New Orleans is the 1 Southern destination in the United States: our incredible nightlife. After all, here, every night is a party regardless of whether it's Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, Halloween or a regular Tuesday. When it comes to festivals, no one does it quite like the our LGBT community.
WAFB - The Iberville Parish Council is assuring residents an adult video store is not coming to the town after a sign advertising one popped up in town. As soon as they got it up, the big sign along Highway 77 in Plaquemine had to be covered. According to the temporary sign, adult videos, books, and God knows what else are on sale there 24 hours per day. It caught many drivers off guard Tuesday morning and Stassi says it did not take long before the calls started rolling in.
