In comics and shows emulating comics, we'll see words which indicate the action taking place. They are almost, but not quite Written Sound Effects. Some authors will just bypass the whole "sounds like" thing and use words for the action in loud capital letters. This is the Unsound Effect.

A character will perform an action and say the onomatopoeia for that action while doing so, or alternately say the onomatopoeia in place of said action. A common Verbal Tic. Often done to make a character seem cuter. Can sometimes make said character annoying. Also sometimes used sarcastically, especially with sound effects like "yawn" or "clap".
Comics has developed specialized terminology. Several attempts have been made to formalise and define the terminology of comics by authors such as Will Eisner , Scott McCloud , R. Harvey and Dylan Horrocks.
