Skip to content. Sleepwalking refers to a type of sleep disorder that involves walking while in a deep sleep. But despite the name, sleepwalking can actually refer to more than that. The term can also be used for performing other activities while deep in sleep, such as sitting up in bed, opening the refrigerator, preparing food, or even driving while asleep.
Maybe you drank too much water before sitting down for a meeting. Maybe it was a long car trip where no one else had to go and you didn't want to request a bathroom break. Maybe you guzzled a ounce soda during Titanic and decided to tough out the last 45 minutes. However it's happened, you've probably found yourself flexing your pelvic muscles to act as a dam against a tsunami of urine until you had the right opportunity to relieve yourself.
IT'S easy to do, especially if you are far away from the loo. Now, we aren't suggesting you just let it out wherever you are, but you should make sure you find a toilet as soon as you feel yourself needing to go. In a healthy adult, occasionally holding in your wee shouldn't do any damage, it's when you do it all the time that you could cause yourself some problems. When your bladder fills with liquid it sends a signal to the brain telling you that you need to pee, and your brain also sends a signal back telling your bladder to hold on - otherwise things could get really messy. It's incredibly rare and unlikely to happen to you, but your bladder can burst if you hold in your wee too much.
